Today’s messenger – John the Baptist
John the Baptist: Anointed Baby!
“He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord… and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous – to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.’ (Luke 1: 14-17)
John the Baptist: Wild Man Preacher!
“And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptised by him in the River Jordan”. (Mark 1: 4-5)
John the Baptist: Visionary Prophet!
“And this was his message: ‘After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptise you with water, but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.” (Mark 1: 7-8)
John the Baptist: The Messenger!
“The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)
“The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God! When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.” (John 1: 35-37)
Prayer
John the Baptist told someone about Jesus… and they told someone about Jesus… and they told someone about Jesus…
Ask God to help you do the same. Ask God to help you be The Messenger!
